The Benton Weekly Record, Fort Benton, MT, 14 April 1883 – Soldiers Graves on the Prairie.
Fort Keogh–The burying ground of Fort Keough contains some suggestive and curious wooden slabs and two or three marble tombstones. One of these soldier’s ranches is inscribed to Dennis Hurley, I Co., 2d U.S. Cavalry, killed at Miles City, July 29, 1878, aged 28. A drunken desperado had killed a member of I Company, and in the melee which ensued between I company and the murderer’s gang, as was the rule in those vigilante days, Hurley met his death.
